Re: West Coast, from Portland to Anchorage, or vis versa
Sun, March 4, 2007 - 3:27 PMOnce you get north out of urban Vancouver, things begin to thin out. Long before you're in Yukon, what you see on a decent-sized map is it.
I hitched up the Alcan / Alaska Highway some years ago, back when there were long stretches of gravel. Expect some sort of services every 50-60 miles: the restaurant cum motel cum gas station cum Greyhound stop cum tavern cum ... there will be a few houses, a generator shack and (maybe) airstrip. That's it, except for an ocassional campground. You *will* see bears, and need to have some way of keeping you food out of harm's way.
Planning on riding all the way up, or taking the Ferry part way? -

Sun, March 4, 2007 - 3:35 PMso camping near the roadside shouldnt be too big of a problem then, and I can expect to find a place to purchase food every 2-3 days???
