what would the infrastructure be like, and what the distance between towns would be

  • Once you get north out of urban Vancouver, things begin to thin out. Long before you're in Yukon, what you see on a decent-sized map is it.

I hitched up the Alcan / Alaska Highway some years ago, back when there were long stretches of gravel. Expect some sort of services every 50-60 miles: the restaurant cum motel cum gas station cum Greyhound stop cum tavern cum ... there will be a few houses, a generator shack and (maybe) airstrip. That's it, except for an ocassional campground. You *will* see bears, and need to have some way of keeping you food out of harm's way.

Planning on riding all the way up, or taking the Ferry part way?
